More about me

My name is Chandra Wijaya. I am a father of two beautiful daughters, web developer, guitarist, forever learner, coffee addict, and minimalism practitioner.

Bio

I grew up in a small city in Indonesia 🇮🇩 named Pekalongan, Central Java. Jumped into IT world during my uni time; called it a bit late since most of my friends had their chances to have computers and internet access in their home during high school, while I did not have that privilege.
But I fell in love in programming right from the first semester started. It was Pascal, C++, Java, .NET, VB, and the good old PHP, those were times I passionately diving into programming. I also freelanced remotely during that period as a PHP web developer in a paper company based in Jakarta.
After graduating from Satya Wacana Christian University, I started working as a software developer in a IT consultant company in Jakarta. It was the critical 3 years when I learned a lot from the seniors there and lying the “programmer foundation” in me. Later time, I took my Master’s degree in Krida Wacana Christian University, Jakarta in Management field to boost my career regarding project management and leadership.
My professional life led me to met my wife, Meryl and now we live in Tangerang (a city near Jakarta), and we are blessed with two amazing daughters, Hazel and Ivy.

Work Life

I’ve been a web developer for over 10 years now. Currently, I am working at one of Indonesia’s largest private bank, Bank Central Asia (BCA) as Assistant Vice President.
My current roles are:

Full stack Web Developer

I love websites and building them. Without realizing it, I’ve spent over than 10 years in this area and still counting. Even in those years, I feel that I just barely touch the surface of this world. What a vast universe.

Facilitator & Mentor

I actively mentor subordinates, juniors, interns and also being a facilitator in some internal company programs. I like to share what I understand through learning, and being a facilitator the most effective way to keep learning.

Team Leader & Project Manager

Developing is fun! But responsibilities grows along with our skills. My roles changed over time from being a developer into a team leader of 20+ people and a project manager at BCA. For me, coding is art. And so are people.

While most of webfolios out there will show one’s achievements, projects and works done, contributions, but not here. I mean, I would love to show you off what I can do, but most of my works are internal projects of companies I worked at. So due to confidentiality concern I prevent myself to do so.
However, I am able to tell you the tech stacks I’m familiar with, here are my skills.

In non technical aspect, I am familiar with widely known development strategy framework such as Scrum and 4DX. Managing a big number of team requires me to get used to deal with project management, timesheet, people and deadlines. Working with my team member with diverse backgrounds and characters gave me opportunity to escalate my teamwork skill, leadership, management and communication.

Why a website?

This world is growing faster and faster with all the technologies built including in socializing. Now social media has been a mandatory for everyone. Some even addicted to it. However, as I learned about minimalism and productivity, the core value of its teaching is actually a paradox to what social media offers.
In my time growing as a teen until now, exposed with the early stage of technology like internet and also social media in its form back then, I noticed that the way people use it is getting more…complex. I remember when chat apps like AOL, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger were released, MySpace, Friendster, Facebook were released, the first commonly used jargon is “to connect”. That is not wrong at all. However, social media today has been overshadowed by a relentless pursuit of likes, followers, and validation. I see it that the focus has shifted from genuine interaction to self-promotion and the illusion of perfection.
That is why I now ditched my Facebook account, and trying to minimize contact with social media as much as possible. They downside is, I lost a medium to share stuffs. So I decided to distill what social media means for me. What I want to use it for? What is the important feature I can use of it? And that gave me three reasons why building a website or blog is the best way to accommodate that needs without sacrificing my value.
